Astrophotography Guides

Explore 101 of the most striking nebulae, galaxies, and star clusters beyond our Solar System, each one captured, studied, and presented with clarity and care. A section introduces the principles of astrophotography, revealing how these images were made and how similar results can be achieved from home.

For those familiar with Astrophotography and trying to get to grips with Pixinsight. This guide will help you harness PixInsight to process astrophotography images both efficiently and effectively. The book describes practical workflows that transform your raw images into stunning final results

This guide has been revised to reflect the changes in the newly released version 1.4. The guide uses free software GraXpert, Siril, and GIMP.  It walks you through the entire workflow of processing astrophotographs. Using these programs, you can achieve results that rival expensive, professional-grade software.  Good for those starting their Astrophotography Journey.

Why Astrophotography?

The true beauty of the universe is hidden from us. By day it is overwhelmed by light from the sun, by night it is often obscured by clouds, the moon or by man-made light pollution. Even on a perfect night the sheer distance and faintness of cosmic objects make them invisible. Astrophotography reveals these wonders.

All of the Deep Sky Object (DSO) photographs on this site were taken by me from my back garden in Bookham, Surrey, UK.
